Expert Lecture on Safe Construction Practices in Shimla Promotes Disaster Risk Reduction

On October 7, 2023, the Civil Engineering Department faculty members, Dr. Saurav and Dr. Tanmay Gupta from Jaypee University in Solan, were honored to be invited by the District Disaster Management Authority Shimla (DDMA-Shimla) to deliver expert lectures on safe construction practices in Shimla district. The event, titled “Training and Capacity Building on Safe Construction Practices and Disaster Risk Reduction,” was organized by DDMA Shimla to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR).

Dr. Saurav’s lecture focused on the importance of adhering to safe practices for earthquake-resistant and resilient construction. He emphasized the need for constructing earthquake-resistant structures, both in rural and urban areas of District Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

Dr. Tanmay Gupta’s engaging presentations covered two essential topics: “Best Practices for Safe Construction” and “Earthquake Safety and Retrofitting of Structures in Shimla City.” His presentations were met with enthusiastic acclaim, as he shared invaluable insights supported by compelling case studies. Dr. Gupta stressed the significance of safe construction and retrofitting measures in Shimla, leaving the audience equipped with practical knowledge to enhance structural safety.

This expert lecture series served as a significant contribution to raising awareness about disaster risk reduction and promoting safe construction practices in Shimla.
