Differences in Bus Fares of HRTC Buses Cause Passenger Distress
2 min readSolan, September 25: The discussion over the fares of Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses has resurfaced. There is a disparity in fares for buses from different depots for traveling the same distance.
Passengers are facing a difference of three to five rupees in ticket prices. This issue has been brought to the attention of the HRTC by passengers several times, but a solution has not yet been found. This problem is not limited to local routes but is also affecting passengers on longer routes. Passengers are being forced to pay different fares for the same distance, leading to disputes and causing an extra burden on their wallets.
Passengers are finding it difficult to determine the actual fare. The corporation claims that fares are calculated based on the kilometers traveled, as determined by the machines. It should be noted that HRTC operates buses from various depots to serve Himachal Pradesh and other states, making efforts to provide better facilities to passengers. However, there are continuous discussions regarding HRTC fares. Recently, a post about the prescribed fares for sending goods in the corporation’s buses went viral on social media. Following this, the corporation took notice of the issue and resolved it. Nonetheless, passengers are facing varying fares on different buses, even for the same distance, raising questions that need to be investigated.
The matter is under consideration, and efforts are being made to rectify the issue of varying fares based on kilometers. A permanent solution to this problem is expected soon, and work is underway to address it. – Rohan Chand Thakur, Managing Director, HRTC, Shimla.
