Impersonator Nabbed with Fake ID Card and Weapon Cover

Kangra, September 11: In the vicinity of Dharamshala, in Khaniyara, a man was posing as a fake Undercover IPS officer while living in a rented house. He has been apprehended. The accused was found with a fake Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) ID card, a pistol cover, a car, and a motorcycle. The impersonator has been identified as Vivek Kumar, originally from Maharashtra.

According to preliminary information, the accused, posing as an IPS officer, used to conduct fake raids in the Khaniyara and Dharamshala regions. He primarily targeted those involved in the sale of narcotics. After acquiring narcotics, he would release the offenders. He also consumed narcotics himself and was involved in their distribution. In the beginning, he carried out this work on a motorcycle, and three months ago, he brought a car with a Gujarat registration number. He had ‘Government of India’ written on both sides of the car and a fake ID card was hanging inside.

Residents of Akshay Valley in Gahliyah complained that the accused had secured a job at a burger company by impersonating a Delivery Boy. He then entered the kitchen with a pistol cover and began claiming to be an NCB officer from the 2016 batch. During his employment at the company, he would also bring a walkie-talkie with him, which he used to communicate with. The suspicion about the impersonator arose in the owner’s mind. On Sunday, when the accused was spotted outside the shop, the owner immediately informed the police.

Upon receiving the information, the police sent a few plainclothes officers to his room. The accused started arguing with them. Other officers soon arrived at the scene. From his room, a fake NCB ID card, a pistol cover, and other items were recovered. The accused was also in possession of a car and a motorcycle, both of which have been seized. The accused had ‘Government of India’ written on the car. Additionally, a fake walkie-talkie has also been seized.

The accused had recruited some other youths to assist him in his activities. After arresting the impersonator, the police are conducting a search of his room. It is suspected that more details related to the case may emerge. Meanwhile, Kangra SP Shalini Agnihotri confirmed that the accused Vivek has been arrested. Furthermore, a search is being conducted at the residence of one of his associates.
