In the shared vegetable market of Mandi-Kullu, the conditions have turned dire. External states’ and local traders’ dozens of vehicles laden with fruits and vegetables were stranded. Consequently, these traders had to either discard the produce on roadsides or feed the abandoned fruits and vegetables to stray animals.
Farmers, who had never encountered such a loss before, expressed their despair. The incessant downpour created obstacles that made it impossible to transport goods. During August 14th-15th and 21st-22nd, the heavy rains rendered all routes impassable, leaving the traders unable to move their goods to their intended destinations.
This time, traders found themselves facing a staggering loss of millions of rupees. The relentless rain made it challenging for them to move their vehicles to their destinations. Attempts to send the goods to other places were also unsuccessful, as the roads were either blocked or washed away due to the heavy rainfall.
The rain-disrupted transportation routes led to insurmountable challenges for traders. Their goods were stranded, and they struggled to navigate through the obstacles. These circumstances have resulted in substantial losses for traders and farmers alike. Fruits and vegetables worth lakhs have either been discarded or left uneaten on the roads.
Farmers lamented that this year they experienced unprecedented losses and devastation. The rains disrupted transportation to such an extent that no route remained accessible to transport their produce. The incessant rainfall had thrown their plans into chaos and led to massive financial losses, leaving them at a loss about their next steps.
