Sunshine After Rain Turns Hazardous for Roads in Himachal Pradesh
1 min readShimla/Nahan, August 26: The aftermath of rain in Himachal Pradesh is revealing a new challenge as intense sunlight is wreaking havoc on the road infrastructure. In many parts of Solan and Sirmaur districts, the sunlight on Saturday worsened the road conditions, leading to further deterioration. Despite the sunlight, road blockages have become a growing concern.
On Saturday morning, a significant landslide occurred along the Nalagarh-Ramshahar-Kunihar-Shimla route. A major portion of the road caved in, causing a 30-40 feet deep sinkhole. The road is not expected to be operational for several days. The halted flow of water under the road is causing an artificial lake to form, raising concerns of potential flooding and posing a threat to villages situated around 10 kilometers away from Nalagarh.
Walking on the road has also become difficult, and the possibility of another landslide cannot be ruled out. The Kalka-Shimla Highway proved useful during the closure of the Kalka-Shimla Highway near Chakki Mod.
Meanwhile, in the Vikrambag Panchayat of the Nahan constituency, the Khajurana-Kala Amb route has been blocked as well. A portion of the road has been damaged, allowing only two-wheeled vehicles to pass for now.
