1 min read

Shimla, August 25: The state is witnessing a continuous increase in cases of scrub typhus along with monsoon-related ailments. In the prominent hospital of the state, IGMC Shimla, tests for scrub typhus have been conducted for 590 individuals, out of which 130 have tested positive, and three have succumbed to the disease.

In addition to this, cases of dengue and eye flu are also on the rise. There have been 82 cases of dengue reported, and around 10 to 15 cases of eye flu are being diagnosed at IGMC as well. Dr. Rahul Rao, MS at IGMC, explained that during the monsoon days, there is an increase in cases of scrub typhus. Over the past decade, hundreds of people have lost their lives due to scrub typhus. Scrub typhus spreads through the bite of infected mites, which thrive in grasses around fields, shrubs, and homes.

The bacteria spread through the mites’ bites and cause scrub typhus fever. It is advised for people to take precautions, and if symptoms appear, immediate medical attention should be sought at the local hospital.
