Over 20 Structures in Danger Due to Foundation Erosion: Municipal Corporation

Despite Rain Pause in the Capital, Landslides Threaten Several Buildings 

Shimla, Aug 17 – According to the Municipal Corporation, more than 20 buildings in the city are at risk due to foundation erosion caused by landslides. So far, the Corporation has evacuated 15 buildings. The Police Department has been notified to enforce entry restrictions until further notice.

As per reports, areas including Baluganj, Komali Bank, and IGMC are facing building risks due to landslides. Even a multi-storey building near Himland has been vacated. Ruldu Bhatta and Eidgah areas are also at risk from house collapses, with many structures declared unsafe, as shared by Councilor Saroj Thakur.

Near Shiv Mandir, certain buildings are at risk due to landslides, prompting the installation of tarpaulins for protection. However, these buildings have not been evacuated yet. Dangerous trees are also posing threats near the Urban Development Department’s office, and their inspection has been carried out.

Similarly, in the affected area of Summerhill, damage has occurred in around six buildings due to landslides.

Councilor Virender Thakur alleges that due to a faulty drainage system, water flows downward, posing a threat to the settlements. In Tuti Kandi, Councilor Harish Janaratha and Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal visited Bengal Baghicha, where one house suffered damage due to landslides.

Meanwhile, in Bhattakuffar, two vehicles were trapped due to fallen trees. Councilor Narendra Thakur revealed extensive damage in the ward due to heavy rainfall. Near Kathu, the road near Shiv Mandir has been blocked due to landslides. Major cracks have appeared on the bypass road in Fagli.

In Fagli, homeless individuals have been accommodated in the Sanskrit College. Councilor Simi Nanda shared that the affected individuals have been given shelter in the college and Naba Club building. In Vikasnagar, damage has also occurred in Block C15.”
