HP bags award in tobacco control

Shimla, June 14 – Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Sudesh Mokta and Director of Health Services, Dr. Gopal Beri handed over the award for outstanding contribution in the area of tobacco control to Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil here today.

MD, NHM apprised the Minister that Himachal Pradesh was given this award for the commendable work done for tobacco control on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day this year.

The Minister said there has been a significant reduction in the use of tobacco in the state due to the efforts of the state government and cooperation of the general public. There has been commendable contribution of police and health department, general public, voluntary organizations and media for tobacco control in the state, he added.

He also urged all the citizens to contribute in making the Save Youth Campaign a success. The campaign is being organised from 31 May to 31 July, 2023 in the entire state this year to make the state tobacco-free.
