Capacity Building Training Programme under the National Campaign on ‘Updation and Verification of People Biodiversity Registers (PBRs)’ Under LiFE Mission of GoI Held

Himachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board (HPSBB) has organized a Training programme as part of celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB)-2023, for capacity building of 150 students from Academic and R&D Institutions for their planned involvement in updation and validation of PBRs in 200 BMCs.

The training programme was organized on 20th May, 2023 in auditorium of Central Potato Research institute, Bemloe, Shimla, under the supervision of Sh. D.C. Rana, Member Secretary, HPSBB. Sh. D.C. Rana especially mentioned the need to spread Biodiversity awareness in the context of successfully addressing Biodiversity Conservation problems in the State. Sh. D.C. Rana encouraged and boosted the moral of the participants to take part in the PBR updation and verification exercise as part of the National Campaign of the Government of India.
Sh. Satpal Dhiman, Joint Member Secretary, HICOSTE was the special guest of Honour. Sh. Satpal Dhiman welcomed all the participants and highlighted the importance of People Biodiversity Registers (PBRs) and also touched on the role of Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs). He also briefed about the National exercise of PBR updation and verification and its significance in activating the BMCs.
Dr. S.P. Bhardwaj, Associate Director (Retd.) Regional Horticulture Station, Mashobra and Dr. Mahender Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Bio-sciences, Himachal Pradesh University were special invitees and briefed participants on validation & preparation process of PBRs.
The exercise of PBR updation and verification is being done in accordance with a National Campaign of the Government of India to activate Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs), including 200 BMCs from Himachal Pradesh.
This national campaign will be officially launched on 23rd May 2023 from Goa by Hon’ble Minister Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). All the activities will be uploaded electronically in a portal, “Meri Life” during the period from 23.05.2023 to 03.06.2023. Therefore, through this training programme the students were given training ensuring their participation and involvement in updation and validation of PBRs in 200 BMCs. During the workshop Dr. Murari Lal Thakur from HP State Biodiversity Board sensitized participants and provided information on biodiversity, its importance, need for its conservation, sustainable use of its components alongwith some important provisions of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
An online Google quiz was also organized for the participants and the winner of the quiz would be announced and awarded on 24th May, 2023 on the occasion of International Day for Biodiversity, 2023 which will be organized at Hotel Holiday Home on 24th May, 2023.
