Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's vision of Skill based technical education will open more employment avenues for students

Technical Education plays a vital role in the human resource development of the country by creating skilled manpower, enhancing industrial productivity and improving the quality of life. It is knowledge about upgraded skills, which give an added advantage to youth besides mainstream education.

The present State Government headed by Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is committed to provide employment-oriented technical education to the students in the State so that they can upgrade their skills as per the demand and requirement of the industry. Since it is necessary to provide required skills to youth in those sectors that have more employment opportunities and State Government keeping this in view has started new Value Added Courses for the youth from the coming academic session. It would help the students in getting quality Technical Education which will pave the way for more employment opportunities in the near future.

As per the directions of Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu new courses such as Robotics, Block-Chain Technology, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning courses have been started in various Government institutions of the State. This will provide an edge to the youth to get better employment opportunities in different fields.

Similarly, B-Tech Computer Science & Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) courses will be started in Hydro Engineering College, Bilaspur and Electric Vehicles Mechanic, Maintenance Mechanic, Solar Technician, Drone Technician, Mechatronics and Internet of Things (IoTs) Technician courses will be started in 13 ITIs of the State viz Ghumarwin, Garnota, Nadaun, Sunni, Shahpur, Palampur, Shamshi, Nahan, Jubbal, Una, Pandoga, Sundernagar (persons with disabilities) and Nalagarh.

Apart from this efforts will be made to improve infrastructure and other facilities in 12 ITIs namely Arki, Bagsiad, Barthin, Bhoranj, Bilaspur (Women), Deegal, Mandi (Women), Neharanpukkhar, Nurpur, Saliana, Shimla and Una under the World Bank funded Project STRIVE. In addition to this, ‘On-grid Solar Power Plants’ will also be set up in five Industrial Training Institutes namely Paplog, Sunni, Dharamshala, Baroh and Sujanpur under the project.

In order to improve and upgrade the level of technical education in selected engineering colleges and polytechnics, “Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education (MERITE) Project” will be implemented soon. In the first phase, four engineering colleges and eight polytechnics will be covered under this ambitious programme in the next five years. Each engineering college selected under this programme will get Rs. 10 crore and each selected polytechnic will be eligible to receive Rs. five crore for its up-gradation.
