Sensitization lecture on the importance of millets for students
Solan, Jan 10 Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni will be celebrating National Youth Day on Thursday at the university campus. To mark the day, the university is organizing a special lecture on the topic ‘ Swami Vivekanand as an Inspiration to the modern youth’ with the support of ICAR NAHEP.
National Youth Day is celebrated each year to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Indian thinker and social leader Swami Vivekananda. CS Talwar, former Special Secretary (Health) Punjab and Founder General Secretary, Swami Vivekananda Study Centre, Punjab will deliver the talk and speak about the learnings from Swami Vivekanand’s life. The students and staff of the university will attend the talk.
Recognizing the importance of millets and the designation of the year 2023 as the ‘Year of the Millets’, the university will also be holding a sensitization lecture on ‘Merging Millets with Meals’. Gurvinder Kaur, member of the Kheti Virasat Mission, Punjab will be the lead speaker on the occasion.
The United Nations has declared the year 2023 as the International Year of the Millets with an aim to create awareness and increase the production and consumption of millets. Millets have been an integral part of our diet for centuries and have several health benefits. Besides, millets are also good for the environment with low water and input requirements. The university will also be organizing several programmes throughout the year to promote the consumption and production of millets.
