Cheer Pheasant Conservation in Himachal Pradesh

Cheer Pheasant conservation involves Conservation breeding and their reintroduction into the wild to supplement the dwindling population of these pheasants due to various threats. The Birds were shifted from the Cheer pheasant breeding centre, Khadiyoun,Chail and were released into the soft release facility by Hon, Governor of Himachal Pradesh(in a live broadcast)on the occasion of the closing ceremony of wildlife week 2022 for purpose of acclimatization at the newly surveyed site “Shilii-Mehla” on 9t5 October 2022.
On lst January 2023, 9 birds (2 Families -4 adults + 5 juveniles)were released into the wild by PCCF Wildlife.
On the occassion following were present :- PCCF Wildlife —cum- Chief Wildlife warden-Rajeev Kumar IFS, APCCF Wildlife -Anil Thakur IFS, CCF Wildlife South -K Thirumal IFS, DFO WL Shimla- Anita Bhardwaj PFS, Vet. Officer Dr Karan & Biologist Akshay Bajaj
