Governor inaugurates International Lavi Fair
2 min readShimla, Nov 11 – Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar today inaugurated the four-day long International Lavi Fair at Rampur Bushahr in Shimla district.
On the occasion, the Governor said that Lavi was not only a commercial festival, but today this festival has become a cultural fair of Himachal Pradesh. He said that the Lavi fair had its own historical importance and was famous not only for trading activities but also old traditions.
Shri Arlekar appealed to the people of the State to ensure their participation in the festival of democracy along with the Lavi fair. He said that on November 12, they should exercise their franchise. He said that each and every vote strengthens democracy, so ensure your participation for successful democracy.
He said that Himachal Pradesh was known for its rich culture, customs and traditions, which was evident from the fact that the people celebrate all religious and traditional festivals with great enthusiasm and fervor. He said every effort should be made to preserve cultural heritage and restore the old glory of traditional fairs and festivals.
He lauded the efforts of the organizers for making sincere efforts to carry forward the rich traditions of the Lavi fair. He said that woollens, dry fruits and other traditional crafts and products exhibited in the market were unique and the fair provided a good opportunity for their promotion and sale besides benefiting the traditional craftsmen and farmers.
The Governor also inaugurated the ‘Kinnauri market’ and exhibition put up by various organizations on the occasion and evinced keen interest in the exhibits.
Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the International Lavi Fair Organising Committee, Aditya Negi welcomed the Governor and detailed out the activities of the fair. He also honoured the Governor.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
Superintendent of Police Dr. Monika Bhutunguru and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion.
