Patriotic fervour marks Independence Day celebration at UHF Nauni
2 min readSolan, Aug 15 – The 76th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and gaiety at the Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni.
The celebrations commenced with UHF Vice-Chancellor Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel hoisting the tricolour at the university campus. All the statutory officers, heads of all departments, faculty, staff and students of the university participated in the event. The flag hoisting was followed by an impressive march past by the NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and security personnel of the university.
In his address, Professor Chandel recalled India’s glorious history and paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters for their selfless sacrifice and struggle for the independence of the country. He emphasized that the youth must understand the true meaning and importance of freedom which came our way through years of sacrifices made by our forefathers. He urged the students and staff to be dutiful and responsible citizens to take the nation to greater heights and appealed to imbibe and carry forward the ideals of our rich cultural heritage.
A colourful cultural extravaganza of soul-soothing dance performances and melodious songs by the students’ university added to the patriotic feel of the day. The Chief Guest also distributed prizes to winners of the different competitions held under Aazdi ka Amrit Mahotsav. In drawing Sheetal Rana bagged the first prize while Khushboo and Prerna Thakur stood second and third respectively. In essay writing, Muskan bagged the first prize while Rajan Chauhan and Pallavi Sharma stood second and third. In singing competitions, Priyank took home the first prize. The second prize was bagged by Saurabh Bose while Amisha Negi stood third. The participants of the cultural performances were also given appreciation awards.
