Nine-day Shimla Book Fair concludes successfully

Shimla, July 03 – The last day of Shimla Book Fair was also full of visitors and book lovers. The closing ceremony of Shimla Book Fair organized by National Book Trust of India and Department of Language and Culture, Government of Himachal was held at Gaiety Theater today. The fair was inaugurated on 25 June 2022 by Hon’ble Education Minister of Himachal Pradesh Shri Govind Singh Thakur.
A creative workshop for children was organized at the fair today. In the workshop, the students were taught tips and techniques on how to enhance their creative abilities and pen them articulately. The facilitator of this workshop was Dr. Vidyanidhi and the coordinator was Ms. Vandana Bhagda from Kikli Sanstha.
Various literary programs organized during the fair saw were attended by personalities like Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, former Secretary of the Academy Shri Jagdish Sharma, eminent litterateur Shri Sushil Kumar Phull, former administrative officer and writer Shri CRB Lalit, former MLA Shri Govind Ram Sharma, former District Public Relations Officer Mr. DD Gupta, writer Ms. Meenakshi Chaudhary, litterateur Dr. Kshama Sharma, literary editor Dr. Suryanath Sharma, and other popular writers from Himachal Pradesh. A large number of students from different schools participated in all the programs and competitions.
More than 63 stalls were put up in this book fair by over 43 renowned Indian publishers. Visitors were excited to see books in Hindi, English, Himachali, Punjabi and Urdu besides other Indian languages published by NBT and other popular publishers available for sale at the fair. Apart from this, there were also quality and affordable books for readers of all age groups in subjects such as public utility science, popular social science, India-country and people, national and autobiographical, folk-culture and Indian and world literature. Many literary, cultural and children’s workshops and competitions were also organized daily.
The fair also saw several cultural programs showcasing the rich folk and traditional music and dances of Himachal Pradesh.
