Inventions and Innovations under Glorious Science Week Discussed

Himachal Pradesh Council for Science Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE), Shimla celebrated 4th day (25th Feb. 2022) of a week long program titled as Glorious Science Week – Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate at Centre of Excellence, Government Post Graduate College, Sanjauli, Shimla. Today’s program started with Documentary (Quantum Science and Technology)

The Program started with the lecture of Dr. PK Ahluwalia, Former Prof. of Physics, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. It was based on the 3rd theme: Inventions and Innovations under Glorious Science Week. He delivered lecture on 75 Impactful Years of Indian Science and Technology. His lecture started with the reference of Achievements stories related to top most Scientists of India like Dr. Homi Bhaba, Dr. MS Swaminathan, Sh. Vikram Sarabhai and Dr. Abdul Kalam. He discussed Election process of India after 1947 till date, have changed as they used ink which was made by AgNO3 (Ink Formation Formula)to validate the persons who voted, Later, EVM machines was launched by Bharat Electronics Limited & Electronics Corporation for easy voting process. He acknowledged father of Research Labs Sh. Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar for his achievements. Dr. Homi Bhaba was also included in lecture for his commendable work in the field of Atoms (Research Reactors at BARC). Dr. Abdul Kalam is known as Missile Man of India, for preparing Prithivi, Agni, Trishul, Akash & Nag Missiles for the defence sector of India. Dr. MS Swaminathan was the father of Green Revolution. In 1947 India was facing food scarcity problems which affected Swaminathan ji to go for Green Revolution. Dr. Verghesa Kurien with Tribhvan Das Patel, Sardar Vallahv Bhai Patel and Nagan Bahi Patel came together made revolution in the sector of White Revolution to overcome the challenges of food security in India. Tata institute of fundamental research built the first automatic computer of India in 1959. ISRO’s contributions in the space technologies (communication, transport, health etc) were also highlighted. He inspired the students to read book by Sh. Nandan Nilekani and Sh. Viral Shah on rebooting India: Aadhar, which serves as a template for transformation of India.

Second speaker was Sh. Saurabh Chaubey, General Manager, IIT Catalyst, Mandi, stared his topic on start-up future of india and media importance in promoting it. In the world ranking India 3rd largest start-up ecosystem. There are 91unicorn start-ups are started till now under which 1, 92750starups registered in start-up India. He inspired the students through the statup videos of different entrepreneur of India, and to work on different fields of innovation for better future. He focused on the emerging fields like Artificial Technology applications in start-ups, block chain applications (Digital currency & fraud reduction, securities and record keeping), mixed reality applications (Engineering, Health care, Education, Military etc.) on which new innovations can be done. He shared the status of IIT, Mandi collaboration with Govt. of India start-up program success in being first TBI in Himachal Pradesh, 20 start-ups , 60 CR funding raid, 600 employment with 80 awards.

Sh. Satpal Dhiman, Additional Secretary, Environment, Science &Technology and Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE facilitation the speakers. Today’s activity for students was Science Quiz competition in which 6 teams of students from Govt. College Kotshera, RKMV, Shimla, Govt. College Solan, Govt. PG College Sanjauli, Govt. College Sunni and St. Bede’s College of Shimla, participated.
