Himachal’s first Post Covid Care Centre started at Nahan

Nahan 27 May – District Administration Sirmaur has taken a new initiative of starting a Post Covid Care Centre (PCCC) facility for Covid recovered patients suffering from different ailments. The initiative has been taken in association with AYUSH Department and Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College (YSPGMC), Nahan. Under this PCCC, a 20 bedded facility has been created in SFDA Hall and 10 bedded in Dr. YSPGMC.
After inaugurating the PCCC at SFDA Hall here today, Deputy Commissioner Sirmaur, Dr. R.K. Pruthi said that need for PCCC was felt after seeing that most of the patients, who recover from Covid19, suffer from general/severe fatigue and weakness, difficulty in breathing, cough, joint pain, body ache, headache, chest pain, high pulse, forgetfulness and lack of concentration, painful swelling of limbs and depression, anxiety etc. He said that PCCC targets to cure such patients through Yoga Pranayam, Meditation, Counselling, Ayurveda medication and Balanced Diet (Satvik Aahar).
He said that only such post covid patients will be admitted to PCCC, who are referred by clinical committee of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College and who are Covid Negative as per RTPCR and RAT test, and have Chest X-RAY showing any abnormalities. Patients, who do not require oxygen Support after covid recovery, and those who have undergone blood test – ESR, CRP, CBC, LFT, RFT, blood sugar and any other related comorbidities.
Dr. Pruthi said that the patients will be kept in PCCC for one week where they will undergo different therapy such as Yoga exercise to unite mind and body, meditation for healing through trance music, Pranayam breathing exercises to enhance lung capacity, counselling, Dhupan – herbal fumigation to purify air/surface quality and medication.
He said that a separate area will be marked as Patient Care-Giver Meeting (PCM) point in the premises where an attendant of the patient/caregiver will meet the patient. Distance of minimum 2 feet would be maintained between the patient and the caregiver/attendant. Full barrier precautions for both patient and caregiver would be maintained strictly at PCM point.
He said that patient’s vital such as pulse, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen level and body weight will be monitored on a daily basis. In case of any emergency, admitted patients will be shifted immediately to Dr. YSPGMC, Nahan.
Dr. Pruthi said that a kit will be provided to admit patients in PCCC which will include Home Isolation Booklet, two N95 masks, sanitizer and a drawing kit for better utilization of free time. He said that with the support of the District Red Cross Society, modern equipment have been provided to the AYUSH Department for treatment of patients admitted in PCCC.
He said that proper documentation would be maintained in the PCCC and the AYUSH Department will publish research papers on treatment and recovery of patients. If this initiative would be a success, similar PCCC would also be set up in other areas of the district, he added.
